How Can I Speed Up Bootup Without CD Drive Being Checked?

I got ubuntu 8.04. Everytime at bootup, I feel that my bootup slows everytime it checks for my CD drive. Do you think that maybe I should disable it in the BIOS? Can that speed up bootup by disabling the detection of my CD drive?

Have you tried removing it from /etc/fstab?

You can change the boot order in the BIOS so that the HDD is booted from first, that should skip the CD check. But, remember that you did this, because one day you may want to use a live CD, and you'll wonder why it won't work, you'll have to change it back at that point.

I think he means the Ubuntu boot sequence is checking the CD drive?
