Help with downloading Yahoo mesenger 8.1

Hello, I'm trying to download yahoo messenger 8.1 on my Linux Ubuntu and the programs name is-
ymsgr8us.exe. The first time I tried to download it It said that I needed to change my associated
preferences, and since i didn't know what to do, i just retried and downloaded it again. This time it worked but every time I tried to open it it would say no application is suitable for automatic installation of that file. I don't know what to do. Can some one please help me. Please

I haven't check to see if yahoo offers a linux version, but you can use "pidgin" or "kopete" to chat on yahoo.

The Linux versions of Yahoo Messenger are either rpm files, designed for RedHat, or a deb for Debian.

You need to download one of those, and install it. The exe is Windows only.

A .exe package is a Windows program. The Unix version of Yahoo messenger can be foun here. The Debian version should work for Ubuntu.
