Post Help Installing Pango From Source

I am having a rough time installing Pango. I compile the source with "make" only to get an error. In file included from markup-parse.c:26:0:
../pango/pangocairo.h:26:19: fatal error: cairo.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make[2]: *** [markup-parse.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

What am I doing wrong? Is their a guide or someone that could help me with it?

checking for CAIRO... no
The cairo "-development" files are required to compile pango.

RHEL : # yum install cairo-devel
Debian : # apt-get install libcairo2-dev

what operating system is this ?

if for example this is rhel5 or 6
it uses gtk2
building gtk3 will be a bit difficult
gtk3 will REQUIRE newer versions of Autotools that is installed in 5 or6
this will be very difficult to do ( can be done but not easily )
and gtk3 will need NEWER versions of MANY SYSTEM FILES for Gnome2 ( can be done but not easily )
