Fairly new to Linux and loving it. I'm using Slackware 9.0 and I'm trying my best to find every possible way to totally scrap Windows from my machine. However, one of my biggest hobbies and points of interest is GRAPHICS. I spend many free hours inside Photoshop.
I know Linux is capable of producing some amazing graphics...but what programs are being used to do so? I've toyed a little with GIMP, and it's pretty cool. Sort of like a little brother to Photoshop (in base format; no plugins). Are there plugins to "beef" up the GIMP? Or, what other apps are out there.
I've tried searching, but haven't returned any of the results I"m looking for.

The Gimp is kinda like photoshop....also I have been reading that photoshop will work under winex, I have yet to try it but I am going to give it a whirl
Try getting the latest Dev version of the GIMP from linuxpackages.net (1.3.16). The dev versions are 10x better than the stable (1.2.4). And 1.3 is pretty mature now.
