I am having the same problem in Fedora Core 3, and also the file browser and file operations from other apps are not working right anymore. However, I don't understand the typing of "nautilus". I get the # prompt when I login as root and the $ prompt when logged in as user, when I open a terminal as GNOME app and I type
nautilus nothing happens, and if I switch to a console (?) using ctrl-alt-f2 I get a message that there's no graphics.
I think it is related to a shutdown problem ... it happened first after I switched from root to a user account to change desktop settings and I had to use the power button to get out.
BTW, how do I remove non-empty directories?
