Gnome Mud install

Hey all, I want to install this proggy called Gnome Mud. I did the ./configure bit, but it tells me at the very end:

checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.0.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed.

So this means I have to go upgrade GTK+? I tried this once before with terrible results and reinstalled Suse. I check YaST and it tells me I've got GTK 1.2.10-877. So if I want to upgrade GTK from the http://www.gtk.org/ website? (the ftp seems offline at the moment) I have some older versions of Pango and ATK from the packages so does this mean I could upgrade them and install the newer version of GTK via source? Or would I have to uninstall GTK, Pango, and ATK packages and then install the source versions?

Thanks
