Question Gnome 2 help

Whenever I load Gnome 2, it pops up that it may not work since my MAC address isn't in /etc/hosts. I add it to that file and it still says Gnome may not function right due to MAC not in /etc/hosts. Is there a way to stop that once and for all?

Also, Gnome won't play sounds for events even though I have the sound server running and speakers turned on. Weird. Never happened before.
