Unhappy Gmplayer - problems with alsa

I have gentoo 2005.1 (with kde 3.4) and i used emerge to install mplayer. Now mplayer works just fine using the alsa driver for sound output, but when I try to use gmplayer (also using alsa for sound output) to play any movie I get this error message: alsa-control:unable to find simple control: 'PCM',0.
Now even with that error message the movie plays and I can hear sound but the movie plays slow and I can't watch the movie because th error message keeps appearing at every frame. When I change the sound driver to arts(which is configured to use alsa) the error doesn't seem to appear anymore but the movie keeps hanging for a few frames every 30-40 seconds. When I try to use alsa the movie plays normally but I keep getting that error message.
I think my problem is with my .asoundrc config file but I'm not sure. Here's my .asoundrc config:
#############################
pcm.sound-blaster{
type hw
card 1
}

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "audigy"
}

pcm.audigy {
type dmix

slave {
pcm "hw:1,0"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 4096
rate 44100
}
}

pcm.audigyls {
type plug
slave.pcm "surround51"
slave.channels 6
route_policy duplicate
}
pcm.51mix {
type route
slave.pcm surround51
slave.channels 6

}

Thank u in advance for your help!

The gui portion of mplayer is messed up when using ALSA. I suggest using just running mplayer without GUI. If you are wondering that is a Gentoo problem, it is not.
