Gentoo Eats Disk Space

Hi, i have a installed Gentoo linux few years ago and i never restarted the server since that. Right now the 'du' reports 37GB used while the 'df' reports 61GB. These 2 numbers do not match. Is this because i never did fsck for years? How do find where the remaining 24 GB are ? I can't restart the server.

Here is the info:
gentoo / # du -skc
37441106 .
37441106 total
gentoo / # cat /proc/mounts
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
/dev/cciss/c0d0p1 / ext3 rw,noatime 0 0
proc /proc proc rw,nodiratime 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs rw 0 0
udev /dev tmpfs rw,nosuid 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts rw 0 0
shm /dev/shm tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec 0 0

Install filelight and run it -as root- on /. If your server does not have a screen, then use ssh -X root@host to display filelight on an other Linux computer (using a live-cd if you use windows).

If you haven't restarted your server for over four years, then I think you will be seriously behind with the security patches and updates. You should address this problem very soon.

Do you mean you are unable to, do not know how to, or do not want to restart the server?

Do it as "du / -xck | sort -nr | head -n 20". That'll give you the top consumers to work on.
