Question Galeon can't use Macromedia Flash Plugin?

I downloaded the Macromedia Flash plugin for Nescape / Mozilla and I had read somewhere that that it should automatically work in Galeon, but it doesn't for me. Can anybody else confirm this?

works fine, install it using the instrucitons for mozilla (i.e. in the mozilla plugin directory) and it should work fine.

Ok I have both the flash plugin and the java class in the mozilla plugins directory and flash still does not work in Galeon.

Will Galeon even work with other GUIs, or just GNOME?

All guis as long as you have the proper libs installed. If it works in Gnome it will work in others. That goes for most programs actually.

I will check my setup on Galeon at home, and see what I can do to help you with the Flash problem.

Cool

well if it works for mozilla then it will work for galeon, as galeon inherits all it's plugins directly from mozilla

I don't doubt that this is true, acid_kewpie, for 99.999% of all Linux installations, but for me, this is simply not the case. For me, flash works in Mozilla , but not in Galeon. My quest is to determine... why? I thought maybe there's a symbolic link missing somewhere and Galeon can't "see" the plugins in the Mozilla Plugins directory. Perhaps if I fix a missing pointer somewhere then it will start working.

well make sure that you do only have one versino of mozilla installed and galeon is set up correctly, check the plugin information from galeons help menu:

Code:
Shockwave Flash

    File name: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 5.0 r48

Mime Type Description Suffixes Enabled
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf Yes
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl Yes
is what i have.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Thanks again, Acid_kewpie! I solved my problem with a bit of your advice. I checked the plugins info under help and found out that Galeon was looking in this directory for the plugins:

/usr/local/mozilla/plugins

I have my plugins for Mozilla stored here:

/usr/lib/mozilla-1.1/plugins

I just copied them from where they were to where Galeon was expecting to find them and *cash register sound* IT WORKED! Thanks a lot for your help.
