From *inside* save dialogs: Ability to move files around, delete, move directories, etc.? Caja integration doesn't do it.

Windows has something that I do miss nearly every other day, and it's something that I just can't quite get Caja to do it, no matter how much I tailor it.

I'm begging you: Don't waste my time with the BS "Linux isn't Windows" page(s) please.

I want something specific:

I'm within any arbitrary application.
I go to save a file.
Inside that save dialog window (behaving like Caja, so I assume it's the integration) I see a broken directory setup.
4. I fix that entire tree from within the dialog. Move files and directories around, rename things, etc., without having to hop out and fix things externally.

I can't seem to emulate this in Caja, and rather than try out every last file choosing integration out there, what is most likely to have this?

Thanks!

Is there a better, more clear, way to describe this? You say using Caja you cannot achieve something which you normally do? Using what method or software is the other experience where things work correctly?

I have no idea why the numbers 1-3 vanished. They were there originally. Is there a bug reported regarding numbered lists(?)

In any case, I'll try to flesh this out further, but I'm not sure I understand what's missing, so I'll interleave additional information to what I wrote.

1. I'm within any arbitrary application.

(Doesn't matter. Any content creation application).

2. I go to save a file.

(Often times something akin to File->Save. I then get a dialog window that allows me to walk around the OS. It looks a lot like Caja, so I'm assuming it's a Caja<-->app integration of somekind, or that desktop environments allow for the currently defined explorer app to be the way it's done, similar to how the old Motif would work itself way into every X11 app by supplying the LAF.)

3. Inside that save dialog window (behaving like Caja, so I assume it's the integration) I see a broken directory setup.

4. I fix that entire tree from within the dialog. Move files and directories around, rename things, etc., without having to hop out and fix things externally.

Here in windows, directly out of that save window, I'm allowed nearly full control over my filesystem. On my linux system (Mint 18.04/MATE) the file save dialog let's me walk around the filesystem, rename something, and perhaps create a directory if needed.

On windows, I can walk around the environment, move anything to anywhere else, delete files, set up [their version of] symbolic links, change permissions, (yaddał).....basically have access to nearly everything that the explorer supplies via right-click.

Keep in mind, I don't regard the lack of any of the above abilities to be any form of "deal breaker", as evidenced by the fact that I'm a Caja guy.

I'd just prefer to not have to jump directly into the file manager to manage this stuff. Just something I miss.

Just to note, that what you did write was now less clear, but I'll effort one more time, otherwise if I'm still not there, then sorry but I cannot help you any further because it would seem that I do not understand the topic you're discussing.

What you're saying is that you prefer the ability to be able to make adjustments in a File->SaveAs dialog box the same between the two operating systems?

While each OS has similar applications and there were some intentions to be able to mirror capabilities, there are no guarantees that all capabilities are duplicated from one to the other.

If someone wishes to develop a software application for either operating system which behave identically on both, they are free to do so.

I see no evidence that a common framework was used between each OS to develop their respective File Manager applications, or that Caja is used in the File Manager application for either OS.
