I ran into a little problem I am not sure if i am the only one with this problem but i would like to add Fluxbox to my current list of Sessions at login. I have been looking around and trying to find documentation that will provide with the end result i need for this task to be completed but no luck so far.
Does anyone know of how or where there are good instructions on how to about doing this?
you need a file in /etc/X11/Sessions called "fluxbox" containing just "/usr/bin/fluxbox" or the relevant path. if that's there and set executable (chmod +x) then it should appear afaik
Well here is a update on my Fluxbox installation I added the file to the Sessions folder and only put the path for the executable but when i logged in it gave me a error saying my session only lasted less than 10 seconds and that there could be a error with the install or i am out of diskspace.
Thought this was a easy install i guess i was wrong.
Could this erro be because the path is wrong? When i did a whereis fluxbox it gave me /usr/local/bin/fluxbox so that is what i put but let me make sure that is what i put first.
That is what it was a simple error like forgetting the forward slash at the beginning of the path. I guess rushing things is when you forget the little things thanks for all the help though guys
What Display Manager are you using? I was having the same problem w/ Fluxbox and GDM. It would give me that error. There was no "fluxbox" entry on GDM, so I just put it under another section. I think it was WindowMaker. I labeled the file in my /xinit folder, xinitrc.wmaker (because the error logs said that was the needed file, check those ) and changed the permissions. Then when I tried to load the WindowMaker entry, Fluxbox would load up fine.
Hope that helps.
I put this in my xinitrc file:
#!/bin/bash
exec fluxbox
