FluxBox

I just started using Fluxbox and it seems to run really well on this machine except I need to know how to set the display to 60 Hz and why (had same problem in Gnome) KAlarm doesn't work here. I need it to get up for classes in the mornings. Help please?

Okay, for starters your refresh rate doesn't have anything to do with fluxbox, try using this to generate a modeline. I know it says XFree86 and you probably use X.org but they're basically the same so don't worry. I used that and have never had a problem with my monitor config since

Now for KAlarm, now I refuse to have anything KDE/Qt installled on my system so i can't test but can you be more descriptive as to why it won't work? It should, I can't see why it wouldn't. If you use XMMS (or BMP) to play music, something like this might be better to use, not sure I use my mobilephone as my alarm clock. If the power goes out it'll still wake me

KAlarm works fine if I start it and minimize it, but in KDE I can leave it running in the system tray and it stays there constantly and wakes me up every morning at the same time, well Monday through Friday anyway. Anyway, the system tray icon doesn't show up, only in KDE, but other KDE apps that I use such as KMail and Amarok work just fine in the system tray, only KAlarm has a problem. And I got the screen settings fixed I just had to learn my way around and find the config utilities.

Ahh, well that I don't know. Maybe whoever developed KAlarm made it work only with kwin and not stick to ICCCM rules or something who knows. At any rate, if you feel like installing more software this will chuck it in the tray for you.

Yeah well, not sure what you were using but fluxbox doesn't have any config utilities, it has text files...
