firefox theme install - cannot use my browser anymore
hey guys,
Feels wierd to ask this, as i never saw this happen before. I Installed a firefox theme and boom...all the icons dissapeared leaving behind scrambled text instead of the icons.... what can i do to fix this...? I tried going to the theme option but it is empty...
can anyone help me?
thank you.
Try opening Firefox in Safe Mode and uninstalling the bad theme.
On Linux, you can go to your Terminal and run:
/path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-mode
enter the correct path to firefox on your system
if that doesn't work you might need to create a new profile:
On Linux or Mac, start Firefox with the the -profilemanager switch, e.g. ./firefox -profilemanager (this assumes that you're in the firefox directory). /usr/bin/firefox -profilemanager works for me
In a terminal/console type /usr/bin/firefox -safe-mode
then tool>themes>uninstall the bad theme
There is no way to change the theme in about:config
There are only a couple of ways to fix a bad theme or extension. The first is to try uninstallng it in SafeMode.
If that does not work you can try manually deleting the file in your Firefox profile folder. You might have to edit the chrome.rdf file along with pref.js and maybe just maybe local.rdf .
If all fails, the last resort is to start a new profile.
Whatever you do, don't waste your time uninstalling and reinstalling. It doesn't touch the profile folder.
ok well..if that is the way it is then that is the way it is. but i need one last help here.. what is the proper way to copy all my book marks, extensions and the changes that i made in the "about config tool " to the new profile..is there a way i can du that?
Bookmarks you can just import. Extensions you are kinda screwed, there is an extension called Mass Installer that is supposed to make installing a group of extensions easier, I have never used it. I always download the extensions I want and save them.
These are the important files you might want to save:
# bookmarks.html Bookmarks.
# user.js User-added preferences (overrides prefs.js every startup).
# cookies.txt Cookies.
# hostperm.1 Cookies permissions, image permissions, and extension website install permissions list.
# signons.txt Saved passwords. Requires the "key3.db" file to work.
# key3.db Supplements password file.
# userchrome.css , usercontent.css
All of the above you can just copy into the new profile.
Get the Bookmark Backup extension. That way you can make backup of all of your important files in case you need to copy them again.
