Not Able To Install Java Plugin For Firefox, browser

I am not able to install java plugin for firefox browser.....
I had searched the net and found that a softlink shud be created in firefox installation directory with the following command
ln -s /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
after I run this command I am not able to open my firefox browser no matter how many times i try.....

the "s" is really for sym(bolic) link, but thats irrelevent.

You need to make sure you're executing that in the proper directory. Also, after you're done, do an ls -l in the directory to see if the sym link is showing up. Also, after you start firefox (or try to), check out the syslog (tail /var/log/messages) to see if anything odd shows up.

2 things .. first the symbolic link if broken won't stop the browser from starting, you just won't have java.

symbolic link is there only so that if you change your java install, you will have to fix the browser to use the same vm.
if you copy the link, you may forget and things may not work right.

Now don't think the ns16-gcc32 is the right folder .. there are at least 2 .. try the others.
Only reason FF hangs is when the plugin is "bad" .. not missing.
