Firefox crashing a lot

Ubuntu 22.x LTS

Firefox has been crashing a lot. Sometimes I can't switch tabs, other times it freezes.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I have not encountered this. In fact, I've regularly been watching streaming video on Firefox (as well as other less intensive uses) on Ubuntu MATE v. 22.04 LTS with no issues.

Have you checked the log files? I'd think in this case the best way to do this would be to use journalctl to search by time or with the "follow" option.

Try: journalctl -k -b -p err | grep -i "Out of memory"

Empathy because this happens a 'lot', for many different reasons.
If you can spare the time, hours of web-researching will turn up dozens of ideas.

Definitely let us know if you find your specific definite cause!

P. S. strace -f -p <PID#> [-o myfilename] # but likely way too deep & obscure

Oh, maybe try the SeaMonkey or Vivaldi etc browser!

How much swap space do you have, and how much is used before and after loading the browser?
What is your memory usage before and after?

I run Kubuntu 22.04 and regularly update Firefox.
I think once a month, a tab crashes and Firefox offers to reload the tab.

You can delete the temp files that Firefox keeps or
Delete the local folder that it keeps.
(There is the .mozilla folder)

Or you can make a new user account and log into your Ubuntu. This will have the same effect as deleting the .mozilla folder.

Firefox crashes a lot here, too, especially when I use it a lot.
I do not, most of the time.
But as the behavior is rather “new” and my alternatives are okay, I consider this a non-problem, but just something going down a slope.

With 91.11 esr I have no problems - guess it's to do with the new features being added - I suggest you update to a newer version.

Running a laptop with Manjaro Plasma and latest Firefox: 16G swap (hibernate works). I do not see that issue. But then, Firefox is closed when I am not using it, the laptop is on hibernate most nights, and about once per week it gets a total shutdown. IF you leave things on you may be finding something with a memory leak that is slow enough to only express over more time than I give mine.

I dont know how long days you have been using Ubuntu. A few days ago, the same problem I encountered. There are some kinds of solutions that might help you stop crashing.
