failed to open /path/.mplayer/default.sub

dear friends,

i'm using a redhat 9 distro and loaded the mplayer following the readme notes from cvs as follows:

cvs -dserver:anonymous@mplayerhq.hu:/cvsroot/mplayer login
cvs -z3 -dserver:anonymous@mplayerhq.hu:/cvsroot/mplayer co -P main

all is raunning well after the compilation except of this error message

failed to open /path/.mplayer/default.sub

i simply ignored it and i can play anyway.

but everytime i use mplayer this error pops up.

how can i solve and get rid of this error?

thanks for any help.

Just a hunch:
It may be trying to open or create a settings folder called ".mplayer" (The "." is the clue).

Since people don't typically have a directory named "/path", it seems that it wants something entered here. For example, individual user settings would go in /home/<username/

Further clues in the mplayer docs or the startup script (if there is one)
