Failed Dependencies

Hi all...I'm getting this error message when trying to install a new package on Red Hat ES 3:

error: Failed dependencies:
libICE.so.6 is needed by lgtoclnt-7.2.1-1
libSM.so.6 is needed by lgtoclnt-7.2.1-1
libX11.so.6 is needed by lgtoclnt-7.2.1-1
libXext.so.6 is needed by lgtoclnt-7.2.1-1
libXt.so.6 is needed by lgtoclnt-7.2.1-1

Can someone explain these errors? Are libICE.so.6, libSM.so.6, etc. packages or something else?

Thanks,
Tejama

I take it these are up2date errors?

These are library packages - have you tried getting up2date to install them?

libICE
X11 Inter-Client Exchange library
This package provides the main interface to the X11 Inter-Client Exchange
library, which allows for communciation of data between X clients.

libSM
X11 Session Management library
This package provides the main interface to the X11 Session Management
library, which allows for applications to both manage sessions, and make use
of session managers to save and restore their state for later use.

libX11
X11 client-side library
This package provides a client interface to the X Window System, otherwise
known as 'Xlib'. It provides a complete API for the basic functions of the
window system.

And so on.

Thanks for the reply Simon. I fibbed a little bit in my original post. My OS was actually ESX, but it's built upon RH. In any case, I appreciate your explanation of what the issue was. I was back and forth with someone else on another forum and they suggested I try the install using the --nodeps and --force options and the install ran properly.

I know this isn't ideal, but according to the person I spoke with, the piece of software that was being installed didn't need these packages.

Thanks for sharing the solution - now if you'd also say which bit of soytware that is, the post will actually be useful.
