Unhappy F10 Upgrade GUI not working

Hi,
I just upgraded from Fedors 6 to Fedora 10. Everything seemed fine.
Before logging in I have an error in the boot log:
mcstransd:error while loading shared libraries: libcap.so.1
can't open shared object file: no such file or directory

On the desktop there are 2 blank error dialog boxes and no user icons.
Clock comes up but then disappears.
Menus and menu bars do not work.
Only think that works is the desktop icon.

Tried:
restarting
ctrl alt backspace
can't login as root
ctrl alt f5 - can login as root or normal user. User files seem intact.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Hardware:
Intel Celeron 3.06Ghz
1 G Ram
Via Rhine II Fast Ethernet
VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP Video Adapter
Samsung HDD

Looks like you're missing the libcap1 package. You might want to install that.
cheers,
