Extracting individual package src files from distro installation media
Hi. Iv got the installaion DVD/CD for FC6 , Suse gentoo and ubuntu. Is there a way to extract the src files for the core utils (tar, gzip, automake, autoconf etc) from these media?
It is up to each distribution whether to distribute source code with the installation CDs. With the possible exception of Gentoo, I believe most do not. However, if they do not distribute source with the installation disks (or any other distribution of binaries), the GPL requires them to make the source for the GPLed software available by other means (I am glossing over the details here). In most cases this is by allowing it to be downloaded from the Internet. Check the respective distros' websites for info.
