You would like to use your ~/.fonts/ directory for emailing with some nice font designs. However the emails with font-face aren't supported by all email softwares.
You probably would like to get embedded your fonts (such as PDF does) into your "html" code, right?
In other words, you'd better just stick to classical/default MS Outlook fonts
!!
What about some evolution, since 2012, changes and progresses have been made.
