howdy all,

I am having trouble getting a virtual machine (ESX) running RH Linux Advanced Server 2.4.9 to connect to the Red Hat Network to be updated. I don't believe it to be a firewall issue on the network side due to the fact that I have an ES version that gets updated fine. I also built a new server minus the firewall feature that's included with the OS and still get the same error. Yes, I do have an active RHN account. This is a clean build with defaults options selected. I can duplicate the error on a newly created virtual machine. I have also tried running the 'rhn_register' command with no success. This was the first AS build I attempted to get updated. I am using a proxy, but the subnet I'm in isn't controlled. I have also tried going through the proxy using good credentials and that didn't work either (same error). The network guys captured some packets and told me that it 'appears' that the server is connecting w/ RHN, then sends a request to reset the connection (finack). The following error is returned 5 times...

A socket error occured: SSL_connect error, attempt #(1-->5)

any suggestions or ideas?

i finally found a thread that discusses this topic....i'll post a response once i try the possible solutions.

this simple command resolved my issue

wget -q -O - https://rhn.redhat.com/help/new-cert.sh | /bin/bash
