error msg when starting x

Debian:
when i run startx it fails with this error:

Code:
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
I have set up the XF86Config-4 with display depths from 1 to 24 and resolutions "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

according to xfree86.linuxwiki.org
I should try to change depths and modes...but i cant see what depths and modes i can change it to?? is there no failsafe mode?

Thanks

Code:
HorizSync 30-57
VertRefresh 43-72

should these be changed? if so, to what?

Thanks

EDIT: edited the refresh rates, still not working

i found the solution to starting X.

I did

Code:
X -configure
and then checked it with

Code:
XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new
and then X started! so i did

Code:
cp /root/XFConfig.new /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
and KDE started nicely, when i did startx

only thing is that my mouse is not working...

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"

changed to

Code:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
and Debian is up and running...now...whats next?
