error in email sending with kmail and mozilla on sbcglobal.net
I have an email account on sbcglobal.net. Sending email from kmail (in Knoppix/Debian Linux) worked fine for several months. Then, about a month ago (Feb. 7 to be precise), I would get the following error message whenever I tried to send an email:
Sending failed:
Connection to host smtp.sbcglobal.net is broken
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem
(e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
Note: Other messages will also be blocked by this message, as long as it is in
the 'outbox' folder
The following transport protocol was used:
sbc
The outgoing email _was_ being sent each time, as the intended recipient would correctly receive the email, even though I got the above error message when I sent the email. Furthermore, I get a similar error and similar error message when I try to send emails from Mozilla on Linux or Mozilla on Windows. Reading email (via pop.sbcglobal.net) always works fine. Finally, the strangest thing is that when I use Outlook Express on Windows, everything works, and there are no error messages when I send. I've tried setting the account settings to either require user name & password for the smtp server, or not require them. Nothing seems to fix this problem.
It seems to me that this problem started after I messed around with my Linux config and screwed some things up (e.g., printer no longer works, but that's another story), and I don't know whether that was the cause of this, or if it's just a coincidence.
Any help would be much appreciated! My grand plan was to migrate to Mozilla and thereby allow the same email database to be accessed via either Linux or Windows, but now I can't get email to work on anything besides Outlook Express.
Thanks,
Sunfish
