Equivalent of "net send"

Hi. If anyone has used the "net send' utility in Windows, they know wht I'm talking abt. I wanted to know if there is an equivalent utility in Linux. It should be noted that I'm part of a network that consists of Windows machines, so the utility should be interoperable with the Windows ulility. Thanks.

Code:
echo "Here is a message" | smbclient -M MACHINENAME
That'll do it and you only need Samba installed
