EPS files destroy themself

HI,

Something very strange is happening to my PC.

I have constructed a couple of eps files with gnuplot and i was able to print those files out with the use of gv and lpr. Although there is a big problem now

when i retry to open my eps file, they are completely rubish ... I mean they are filled with the follwowing lines

^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@

and so on and so one
only the last lines say

%%DocumentFonts: Symbol Helvetica
%%Pages: 4

I find this a big problem because i loose all my data,

the following programs have constructed the file
gnuplot with the use of set terminal postscript color enhanced solid

the following programs have been reading the files
gv (to watch it ... first it worked, i got the image ... 2 weeks later they are blanc)
rsync (we use backuppc as a backupserver so daily rsync reads the file
lpr (i have printed the damm thing)

Did anybody experienced the same problem?

I use MDK 10.1

any help would be welcome

Those just look like standard postscript files, I believe. Some binary data perhaps.
