Unhappy Enemy Territory Mesa issues

Hi, I installed RTCW: Enemy Territory yesterday on my Linux Red Hat box, on the off chance that it would work a damn site better than on Windows, and I would be able to get rid of windows. However, whenever I try to run this program, it comes up with the following:

ET 2.55 linux-i386 May 27 2003
----- FS_Startup -----
Current search path:
/home/craig/.etwolf/etmain
/usr/local/games/enemy-territory/etmain/pak0.pk3 (3725 files)

If this is intentional, add
"+set r_allowSoftwareGL 1"
to the command line when starting the game.

I am really at a loss for what to do. I have a Radeon 7500 graphics card, which I had assumed would do the openGL processing for me. I could be wrong of course.

I tried running it with the +set r_allowSoftwareGL 1 setting, but it runs slower than a dog, and is impossible to use.

If someone could help, that would be great.

Try reinstalling your video card drivers. I had a similar error message. I reinstalled the driver and works with no problem

You need hardware acceleration. Not sure if ATI makes a driver for that card, if not then get the DRI drivers.

In reply to both of you. I tried to upgrade the driver, and got totally lost. How do I uninstall the origional driver? And when trying to install the DRI drivers, it kept coming up with:

Compiling...
ERROR: Kernel modules did not compile

The DRI drivers can not be installed without the latest kernel modules.
Installation will be aborted. See the dri.log file for information on
what went wrong.

I am lost. Really. Please help!
