emacs-happycoders syntax highlighting

Hi, I'm using emacs with the happycoders config , and it used to work great, but then the new version doesn't syntax hightlight until i do C-s or something like that, and I have to do that for each page (every time I scroll). Anyone know where I might fix this? (Not much help on happycoders.org, that I can see.)

Also, on pressing C-s, it'll sometimes write one of the newly highlighted lines double, not sure why or where.
EDIT: this was due to international characters, fixed it by making an alias emacs='export LANG="nn_NO.ISO-8859-1";emacs'
