I'm taking a CS class that uses scheme and recommends emacs as an editor. I'm used to vim, but I should learn the basics of emacs and it sounds like emacs and lisp/scheme integrate well with each other. Vim automatically indents when I hit enter and seems to keep track of tabs/indents well when typing scheme code/emacs config info, but emacs does none of that. Is there a way to enable that?
Finally, the class provides a .emacs file that is supposed to do a good job at integrating a scheme process and the file you're editing. I loaded the file (
http://www-inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~i...1a/class.emacs) and got an error I didn't understand, but I'd like there to be some key binding to load a scheme process in a separate window and load the file you're currently editing into that process. What parts of that sample .emacs file do I need to put in mine to make that specific part work?
Thanks in advance.
