Emacs bashing
I'm having a couple of problems with bash (I think). I run LFS with KDE 3.1.4, and I use KDM to boot. If I select "Console login" from kdm, then it goes into bash fine, but if I login and open a Konsole, it doesn't source from /etc/profile like it should. If I use the KDE menu to run programs which I have installed in /opt then they will not run (presumably because the PATH is defined in /etc/profile), nor will they run from the console until I type "source /etc/profile"
The other problem I am having is that when I use emacs to go into a shell (M-x shell) I get:
readline: warning: rl_prep_terminal: cannot get terminal settings
before the normal shell prompt, and it doesn't seem to output from commands (eg "less output" appears to do nothing, as does running a program which works otherwise). Are these two separate Emacs problems, and do they have anything to do with the bash problem I mentioned earlier? I suspect not since I get these problems in emacs when it's run in X or just from the command line.
Any help would be most appreciated.
