drag n drop and file managers

Hello,

I've been trying out different file managers for linux, and I've run into a snag:
Dragging and dropping files to applications doesn't seem to work, except with nautilus. Now I've been told that this is not normal.

for example, dropping a file from thunar, rox-filer, emelfm2 to vlc player playlist doesn't work. the icon simply floats back to its folder. If I use nautilus it works fine. Any ideas how to fix this?

btw, I'm running yellow dog linux on a ps3.

Thanks,
Alex

It depends on the involved applications (both of them), and I think that you really have no control over that.

You might have some luck with newer versions of vlc which are based on qt4 and might have a better compatibility in that regard. Older versions GUI are based on wxwidgets.

Thanks a lot. Indeed, building the newest vlc from source fixed my problem.

Cheers,
Alex
