Hi,
I have been trying to get k3b to detect my cdwriter as a writer and I have read in several places that k3b and kernel 2.6.8 simply dont play nice togeather. But where do i go to find an older kernel, like 2.6.7 maybe? Will downgrading likely mess up other programs i have installed? Im still pretty new to linux and am runing fedora core 2.
Thanks.

You should be okay with downgrading kernels. If you want to roll your own, you can check out the kernel archives at kernel.org. Otherwise, I imagine they're somewhere in the Fedora packaging system. Having never used any redhat or fedora system, I can't tell you exactly where to look.

I wouldnt compile the kernel from scratch using source from Kernel.org, but rather as Matir mentions find the RPMs somewhere on the net. I dont want to discourage you from doing this, but have you tryed fixing K3B problem? Sometimes certain permissions need to be setup on the /dev points. Or i know in slackware, users cant burn cds without setting up a group in K3B and have the user joined to the group giving permissions to use the devices. Can ;you give us more details on your hardware, and software configurations thus far?

thx goodluck
