I just have a doubt about wireless performance. I live in a two floor house. The wireless router stays below, while my computer is on my room upstairs.
My doubt is that when I installed Ubuntu 12.04, wireless worked just fine, but then I decided to try Sabayon 9 KDE, which looked very good at first impression. But then I realized that my wireless just worked when I put my laptop close to the router, different than Ubuntu...
So, my question is: Can the OS influence wireless performance?? I thought the performance just depended on drivers and stuff.
The only reason you would get a performance difference like that would be if the two distros are using different drivers.
If you like KDE, openSuse has a good KDE setup, and they have very good forums and documentation. I was always impressed by the philosophy and look of Sabayon, but the reality never seemed to actually work out quite as well.
Thank you all for answering my question. I'll need to try another distribution which has good wireless drivers. I've been trying lots of Linux flavors, from Slackware to Lubuntu, Gentoo, Sabayon etc...but I didn't find yet the one I really like...now I'm trying LMDE, which in first impression works just fine and has the simplicity of Debian.
