Does libfam contain built in fam daemon


I am wrting a fam client to monitor set of files. I have the libfam library and fam.h header file.
Could someone clear my doubt on whether i would require a separate fam daemon installed for libfam to communicate or libfam library bundles the fam daemon with it.
