does installing w32 codecs solve all media problems in kubuntu?

i haven't switched to an unlimeted data plan so cant afford installing stuff via terminal. If i download w32codecs.deb will it solve all my media problems in kubuntu? Or i shud just install vlc player? Sorry, is there a way to reset all my settings in kubuntu 12.04.1?? That is what i am currently using as of now

if they are mutually exclusive based on your data cap, my vote would be to download and install vlc. i think apt-get will report how big the download + dependencies will be so you will have to hit 'y' to accept the download.

what media player are you using now ?

i use fedora which uses yum as the repository manager but in ubuntu i think its:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
also, i just ran this on my xbmc live-usb pc (runs on top of ubuntu):
Code:
xbmc@live:~/win/stuff$ sudo apt-get install vlc
