Unhappy unable to get codecs ( w32 , libxine etc.)


hey friends,
I really tried my heart out in order to play videos on my kubuntu 7.10 .
only positive thing that happened was that now i am able to play mp3 files on amarok , but i am unable to get the essential codec for playing videos ( irrespective of the format) , right now i am unable to play any sort of video ,i still don't know which are the essential codec for playing the video files .
please guide me out guys ,

pop in a geexbox live cd google it for the link download is only about 12 megabytes usually less then that even and i have not found anything it wont play
