DNS settings aren't saved (change back every boot)

After installing Mandriva 2006 I found that Firefox and Konqueror load pages extremely slowly (though file download was great).
Thanks to the advice of the forum I found it was my DNS settings, since for some strange reason the system allocated the address of my modem (!!!) to the first DNS entry and only then entered my ISP DNS address as the second DNS. After I deleted the modem's address and entered my ISP address instead as first DNS, pageloading improved dramatically.

However, for some inexplicable reason my DNS settings are not saved! Each time I boot up I have to reset the first DNS to get the system run smoothly.
I guess somewhere the system, on booting and connecting, allocates the DNS addresses dynamically, BUT WRONG...
How can I force the system to just keep what I enter and not allocate it each time???

Thanks
Kathy.

Its likely being written by your dhcp setup.

On my debian I had to edit /etc/dhclient.conf to add the following:

supersede domain-name "domain1.com domain2.net dmz.domain1.com";

This made sure it would use my entries for /etc/resolv.conf instead of the ones presented by the dhcp server.

There are various dhcp clients. The above is used for dhclient. You'll need to verify which one you're running to determine how to supersede the dhcp entries if you're not running dhclient. Prior threads on this board have talked about the other clients.
