Direct Rendering Headache
Hey gang,
Well, after two days of pounding my head against the wall and looking all over for some decent information, I thought I would see if anyone could help me out. Here's the problem:
I am running Gentoo 1.4 with a Voodoo3 video card.
XFree86 is using the generic 'tdfx' driver for the card. The drivers are working fine but I would like to get direct rendering enabled for much higher FPS. Currently I am only getting 140 at the highest with glxgears.
After configuring the kernel according the docs on the Gentoo site, I get the following error when running the following command:
# glxinfo | grep rendering
# Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"
I get the following when uncommenting the following section in XFree86Config:
Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection
Error: "Mode" not supported
I disabled DRM in the kernel because the directions specified that xfree-drm would handle the DRI component.
Anyway, I am completely at a loss at this point.
Thanks for any help or advice
