I recently downloaded the kernel version 2.6, followed all the instructions to configure and build the kernel, and made a link to it in lilo. When lilo boots the kernel, I get a blank screen with a blinking cursor that leads nowhere, despite there being some harddrive activity. Any recent step by step guides to using a new kernel or other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I tried doing a rebulid of the kernel that I was already using to see if I could get that to work but I had the same problem. However, I noticed that, while there is nothing on the screen, control alt delete successfully reboots the system. Maybe this is only a problem of graphics not working?
I can get a terminal if I pass vga=ask in lilo and select any of the vga modes. I guess the problem is that the SVGA mode just isnt working, which is very odd because it works just fine on the old 2.4 kernel. How can I configure the SVGA mode to work correctly?
anyways... are you using the mandrake kernel... or did you compile your own kernel ?
if you compiled your own, i suspect you made a mistake ion the Graphics section ?
