Is it that the installer isn't recognizing your hardware? If so you may be able to boot with special boot parameters.
If it's your that BIOS doesn't support it you can check the Debian docs at their website. If I recall you'll need to make from 1 to 4 disks depending on your install choice, but I'm not sure. If you have a DOS boot disk (bootdisk.com) you could try to install it that way - again covered in their docs (there is a boot.bat file on the cd that you can use).

Perhaps you could post back more info?

If you get past the initial boot there are some things to watch out for. For instance I had problems getting Lilo to install to the root partition (with Sid & Potato installs). So I created a floppy until the install was completed. However I needed boot p's, but the floppy creation precedes the "edit boot" p's stage (had to skip ahead, then go back).

Also, if this is for a desktop & your first install of Deb I would recommend that you avoid dselect (unless you want/need special pkg's) until you get your system up. You can run it anytime, although there are other options like deity & kpackage.

You don't have any distros listed on your profile so I'm assuming this is your first experience with Debian (I hope I'm not coming across as patronizing or anything like that).

I've heard of people having a lot of trouble with Debian & the Highpoint 366 controller (& other Highpoint controllers). I'll search around & see what I can find, but I'm pretty sure that's your problem.

Just out of curiosity, what ide chanel is the hd your trying to install on? You might want to check this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=18957
It's possible you need to use boot parameters.
