cups printing: can print test page, but printer not available in openoffice

Hey

I have (successfully) set up a printer on my desktop. I can successfully print a test page, however, when I go to OpenOffice to print a document, my printers aren't listed there.

It definately was there about 36 hours ago, as I printed from it.

I have looked into the commanline stuff, but I get errors:

root@archimedes hamish # lpr
lpr: error - scheduler not responding!
root@archimedes hamish # lpstat hamishjames
lpstat: get-jobs failed: client-error-forbidden

Then, I thought about reinstalling it under a different name, but got another error:

root@archimedes hamish # foomatic-configure -s cups -p Epson-Stylus_C42UX -c file:/dev/usb/lp0 -n c42ux -d gimp-print-ijs
lpinfo: cups-get-devices failed: client-error-forbidden
lpadmin: add-printer (enable) failed: client-error-forbidden
Could not set up/change the queue "c42ux"!
root@archimedes hamish #

All correct modules are loaded - indeed, it DOES work because I can print the test page - however, it doesn't seem happy!

One thing I did, which maybe damaged it was to run the "gnome-cups-manager" (which didn't highlight that I had a printer isntalled) and I wonder if that earased my printers and changed the cups stuff which I had. Does that sound likely?

Thanks in advance.

IIRC go to wherever you installed OO and run "./spadmin" (without quotes)

There is a box to add the print command, I think it will default to lpr, change to lpr-cups and it should work

Sorry for the vague answer, I am watching the French GP right now

Hey

found that, but even when I changed it to "lpr-cups", I still get the lpr: error - scheduler not responding! .

I just don't understand why the printers aren't listed in OO.

Any other suggestions?

If the scheduler is not responding, you need to restart cups. Everytime you make one of these changes to the configuration restart cups.

I have restarted cups, however, no change.
