ok, so i'm having a bit of a nightmare trying to figure out how to get postfix to receive emails.
I'm not trying for a complicated setup, just the ability to view the incoming emails with alpine. at the moment I can send with no issues, but cannot receive. To complicate issues further, this needs to happen over ipv6. due to the fact that i'm only testing, i'm using a free fqdn provided by mooo.com. So my first question is this: is it possible to receive at an address like
user@subdomain.domain.com ?
I don't have mx records set up, but i understand that this shouldn't be a problem as it'll default to using the ip specified for the domain instead. I can telnet into port 25 fine and there is no firewall in front of the machine. my postfix config is as below:
Code:
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
append_dot_mydomain = no
biff = no
config_directory = /etc/postfix
inet_interfaces = [IPV6 ADDRESS]
inet_protocols = ipv6
mailbox_size_limit = 0
mydomain = REMOVED.mooo.com
myhostname = mail.REMOVED.mooo.com
mynetworks = [IPV6 ADDRESS]
myorigin = $mydomain
recipient_delimiter = +
relayhost =
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtp_scache
smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Debian/GNU)
smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtpd_scache
smtpd_use_tls = yes
i've been staring at this for ages and my head hurts.
edit: i have now solved this, whilst my config wasn't perfect it was down to my MX records not being set up. having now configured this, I can read emails just fine.
