I guess first thing i'd worry about is getting the more "simple" things out of the way. If the xf86config isn't giving you the output you want, you may want to go to ATI and see if they have a driver for linux you can use. There are alot of options that the kernel supports and depending on the version of that kernel, it's more than likely that you'll have to edit to your needs and rebuild it accordingly to make sure the proper ethernet card drivers, etc. are supported and loading for the network, usb etc.. I'm sorry I can't offer a comprehensive network config. I don't know the specs. But just start out with the video and see what ATI says about that card and linux.
