computer monitoring software

Hi,
I'm looking for a linux program to monitor or spy on internet activity, Instant messaging and emails.
I use Guardian on my sons win xp laptop. It emails me his IMs, email and internet usage. His laptop broke and am loaning him my linux laptop.
I've searched, and not found anything comparable.

Usually I have no problem fining an os Linux program that's equivent or better than the commercial windows program, I was using.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

You could try just installing a keylogger or a tcp connection logger. Or maybe a transparent squid proxy?

Spyware (like Guardian) will go against the grain of most linux developers. Whatever you intend to use it for is irrelevant. Somebody could use it to spy on people without their knowledge. So I doubt there is one out there. Be careful if you do find one. Anybody willing to make one, may report back what it finds to people other than you.
