I have been tasked with finding 2 things for my company.

1) a transaction based monitoring system. What it will need to do is monitor logfiles and watch for a transaction to be sent, and then a matching transaction recieved, if the matching transaction is not recieved in a set time, it will need to trigger an alarm. If at all possible I would like to do some high level system montioring as well. CPU, MEM, and Drive Space.

2) a ticketing system. It would be nice if I could get the monitoring system to feed directly into this, but it is not critical.


Any ideas or suggetions.

So, is this Free/open-source software your looking for? If this is a production environment with some funding to put forward, I believe you'll find that Remedy's ARS system will meet you tkt'ing needs. It comprehensive and is commonly deployed, but it comes with a price.
For alarming/network monitoring... there are too many to mention (and lots are FOSS) but most will feed into the above tkt system. It really all depends on the size and requirements of the project you're faced with.
