Composite manager crashes in X.org 6.9 with ATI card

Im trying to enable the transparency feature using the KDE control center. I am following the guide found here:
http://baghira.sourceforge.net/OS_Clone-en.shtml#step7

Now, every time I restart KDE, the composite manager crashes, but doesnt say why, it just says "Composite manager has crashed twice within a minute, and is disabled for the rest of this session"

To state the obvious:
I have added those lines to my x.org config file
Im running x.org 6.9
Im also running KDE 3.4.2
Im using a ATI Radeon card, with the latest drivers from their website

Bump, I did find that it messes with the ATI driver, which falls back to the Mesa libs. Anyone?

two things
composite cannot coexist with opengl/glx 3d acceleration, there is an option to allow the two to coexist but it is unstable
also composite extension itself is still unstable
