After installing compiz, it will often (but not always) hang my panels at login, and i cant access anything except desktop. i got around it by putting terminal on desk, so i could do "killall gnome-panel" but then the space for the clocks on my panels disappears, and it wont readd them (apparently it does, but it doesnt register to the panel after killall, i once restarted fine w/7 clocks on one panel)
