Fedora 8 - Compiz questions
Greetings Gurus.
Installed Fedora 8 this week, and mostly all is going well, but I
seem to have a couple minor issues with the desktop effects.
First issue is if I try to run Quanta Plus with the effects enabled the
X server crashes. (Restarts in runlevel 5, drops to prompt in runlevel 3)
Second issue is with the Compiz-Fusion icon. Got it installed, but
it fails to work. Attempts to load for 30-40 seconds when I run it but
then just terminates silently.
Did some searching and found some references to other people having
the same problems, but no solutions.
Anybody got any ideas ?
My PC is p4 HT 3000, nvidia 7800gs 256mb gddr3 video. 2 g pc3200 dual
channel.
Thanks

How did you install Quanta Plus?

Does the problem go away when you switch compositing off?
Are you using the latest nvidia driver?
Are you using AIGLX?

You don't need it. But if you must:

If you go to Http://FedoraForum.org and go to the forums and then the How-to's you will find a very large section on compiz fusion including and updated version and a lot of instructions.

Thanks for the links and replies.
Installed quanta via yum. (Web Devel Package)
If I turn off the desktop effects, it runs fine.
(I was hoping for a quick fix that would let me run
quanta with the effects on....)
Running latest nVidia driver, getting crazy frame rates running
Unreal Tournament, both native and via Wine, and most
everything else.
Not sure on the AIGLX. I remember beryl used to have
a config setting for that, but cant find it in Compiz.
I may play around with those updated versions a bit later.
Thanks

Check Leigh123's post in the Fedora Forums he has updated NVidia drivers for fedora along with a lot of info on setting up Compiz and getting it to work right. He also has screenlets for Fedora 8&9.
