I have a server that is installed with clamav but is not directly connected to internet. Is it possible to update the virus database with following command:
clamscan -d daily.cvd
where "daily.cvd" is the current file available from clamav's website.
Would that change the entire virus database to just that file, or will it update incrementally based on what is already in virus database? Do I need to update main.cvd and daily.cvd as well?
Note, using command "freshclam" is out of the question because I cannot directly connect machine to internet.
"clamscan -d daily.cvd" runs clamscan using the virus database file from the current directory. It won't update the daily virus database.
If you somehow can copy daily.cvd from clamav's site to the box that has no internet connection, then you can move the file to the directory where the databases are located (usually /var/lib/clamav) overwriting the previous one and keep the database up-to-date.
I found it under "/usr/local/share" - though thanks for your post, it forced me to find it using "find" command when I didn't find the file usder /var/lib/clamav
