Question CD-ROM file format difference between windows and linux

Guys and Gals,

I'm new to Linux(Mandrake 10.0) and am trying to install some software (mysql, jBoss etc etc). I don't have network connection on my desktop( Linux) so I have to download the files on my laptop (running XP) and trying to transfer them to my desktop. After I downloaded the files, I tried to use my USB flash memory to transfer files, it gives me an error in linux after transfering a portion of a file (700K of a 2MB file) saying "Stale..." error or something of that nature and refuses to recognize the USB flash memory till I restart the machine.

After trying to do that for a while, I gave up and tried to use CD-ROM to transfer the files -- For this I was using Roxio Easy CD Creator's "Creator Classic" Version 6. the format I use is ISO-9660 File system and file names, but when I try to open it in linux it shows me weird characters or that there no files at all, even though I can see them in windows (I did it 4 times before giving up).

Can someone lead me through my trouble here please? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
--kiran

As far as i'm aware there shouldn't be any difference, i use windows and have copied files to cd and read them fine under Linux - have you checked Google for any bugs etc in Mandrake 10?
